Knife

Knives come in full tang (1 metal piece) or folders.  Certain steels hold an edge better, the edges can be serrated, plain, or combo, and the color of the blade can be different. Some handles can be taken apart while others can't.  Some handles actually have storage space to hold small items such as tinder.

Multi-Tool

There are many different multi-tools on the market, as well as brands.  Each of these have their own features as well.  Some have easy access knives, scissors, or pliers.  Some have replaceable wire cutters.  Some have S30V steel knife blades.  The screwdrivers can either have a short or long handle.  Some come with additional bits.

Seven's Defensive Force

I made a list called Seven's Defensive Force which consists of all the tools or self defense items one may have at their disposal. The results WILL vary depending on what the attacker has on them, how desperate they are to do the crime to you, and the reason they chose you as their victim.

1. Verbal and Nonverbal: There are times an attacker may be halted by your words alone. Some ways could include...

  • Trickery (Telling an attacker a lie like you have Ebola could keep some away if the truth was high enough that you could have it, or if you really have a flu or cold which resembles it.)

  • Threats (Assertively threatening someone that you have a weapon, which you have no compass moral of killing them and throwing them out in the closest dumpster if they get to you, can give a second guess to some attackers.)

  • Getting inside their mind (It may be easier if you know them, but sometimes you can talk your way out of things either way.)

  • Appearance: How you look could also create or deter an attack.  People who walk looking down at their phone rather than their surroundings will be attack much greater than a rugged person walking down the street looking around.

2. Martial Arts: Your body is something you always have with you. Strike a heavy blow or use pressure points to stop them in key areas.

  • Punching: Ex. Boxing

  • Kicking: Ex. Taekwondo

  • Both: Ex. Karate

  • Chokes and Holds: Ex. Judo

3. Status Effects: Items that stops your opponents but doesn't permanently harm them.

  • Pepper Spray or Tear Gas: Long range sprays which causes attacker to gasp for air, burns their eyes, and gets them coughing. Stream... NOT mist. Mist allows for much error especially with wind.

  • Taser: Shocks the attacker paralyzing them for a duration.

  • Non Lethal Poisons: There are few compounds that are specifically used long ago by natives for hunting which is a dart that makes their pray sleepy or paralyzed to get in to capture it. Other gear would more be used most likely by ninjas... or Batman. Besides that anything that disturbs the human body like laxatives would be effective but not practical in almost all situations.

  • Distract: Items that distracts an attacker which would allow you to escape or move. One such item with that exact intention is the Ninja's Throwing Stars.

  • Restraints: Hand Cuffs, Duct Tape, and Rope: All items which if you got the edge up on your predator will allow them to lose access to their hands, feet or both.

  • Fire: Fire protected the caveman... so fire could protect you. It was a reason how the idea of a flamethrower supposedly came from.

4. Impact Weapon: Baton, steel pipe, baseball bat, pan, stick, or whatever you can find around you which could be used to do extra damage! I guess a car would fit this category, but I don't advise running anyone down unless you really had to if they had a gun to you, duck.. speed... and hope for the best?

5. Edged Weapon: This would include the survival knife, axe, sword, pocket knife, multitool, spear, and more which many enjoy collecting or have on hand.

6. Traps: While you can't make a deadfall to crush your predator running after you, a thought out and planned home defense could have pitfalls, spots for them to trip or fall, and others that might even net them. If one happened to actually have marbles lets say, you could spill them on the ground / near stairs to have them take a fall. Tire Spikes is situational too during a chase.

7. Lethal Projectiles: This includes bow and arrows, slingshot, hand gun, rifle, and more.

Multi Use Tools & Self Defense Items

Shovel

There are foldable shovels as well as shovels which have other features like a multi tool. Size can vary greatly as well. Make sure the handle of your shovel is as fuctionable as the metal part.  A shovel in the trunk of a car is recommended for snow as well.

Needle & Cordage

Cordage ranges from 550' Paracord to unwax unscented dental floss.  While needles help for sewing, it can also be used to make holes, use as a compass, measure, making traps, and more.  Both needles and cordage come if different thickness and color.

Pen & Paper

While one's memory may fail, information or a checklist writen out will not (with waterproof paper).  One can form lists, notes, signals, trails, draw maps and more with a handy dandy notepad and a pen / pencil.

Walking Stick

A walking stick during one's travel should be half a foot larger than one's size to make sure it doesn't hit one's self in the face upon collapse.  There are some walking sticks which have other tools made in it.  The stick could be used to cross places upon walking acrossed it as well.  Bamboo is a great material for the stick.
