The Fire Triangle consists of fuel, oxygen, and heat. Fire extinguishers are made to destroy one of these three chemical reactions to break the chain. Here is the decision making list of questions which one can ask to fight a start of a fire. 

Any answer of NO means to LEAVE IMMEDIATELY!

 

1. Can I escape safely and quickly from the area if I attempt to put the fire out? (Yes) Go to step two.

2. Do I have the right type of fire extinguisher? (Yes) Go to step three.

3. Is the fire extinguisher large enough to fight the fire? (Yes) Go to step four.

4. Is the area clear from hazardous materials and falling debris? (Yes) Extinguish the fire!


P.A.S.S refers to using a fire extinguisher.


Pull: The silver tab out of the handle
Aim: It's not like a target. One must aim at the base of the flames to successfully stop the fire.
Squeeze: The handle together
Sweep: Sway back and forth to cover the entire base with that good stuff!

Learning your ABCDs... Is the fire extinguisher right for your opponent? 
A. Solid materials such as a shirt, a box, or a bed.
B. Flammable Liquids such as alcohol, oil, or gasoline.
C. Electrical Equipment such as your computer tower, or those darn X-Boxes which had a history of going on fire!
D. Combustible Metals such as magnesium or potassium.
